OK, I finally picked up a P5W DH Deluxe/E6600 and would like to get a SATA DVDRW for this build. I've heard good things about the LiteOn drives but a review on Newegg says that the 20x LiteOn SATA drive doesn't work with the ICH7R chipset. Supposedly it will read and burn CDs but not burn DVDs.

I was just wondering if this was a known problem with SATA optical drives and the DH Deluxe or the ICH7R, or if maybe the reviewer simply got a bad drive. Also I wonder if it only affects the 20x model and not the 16x LiteOn SATA drive due to a change in firmware or something.

Any info would be appreciated. I assume there are people running SATA optical drives on the 975x chipset (and hopefully the P5W board)?

Or do I need to make a quick swap to the P5B Deluxe? :D

Your gona be fine. I have the same mobo and cpu as you. I also have a lite-on dvd burner that i bought at Newegg and it is SATA interface. Works find. able to burn cd's and dvds, and read everything. I didnt even think about it when I bought it that it might be incompatible.

I have an asus 975X P5WDG2 WS Pro and my OLD MSI SATA Combo drive doesn't work for me under Vista. It used to with XP.

Sometimes it appears in my computer, but most of the time it is just a ghost drive. Bios detects it just fine though!

OK, thanks guys. I didn't think about the OS mattering but I'll be running XP for a little while longer. That reviewer might have been running Vista or just not have known WTH he/she was talking about.

trOver, out of curiosity which LiteOn drive did you go with? And would you make the same choice if doing it over again or get another brand? I haven't really read up on the speed, noise levels, or write quality yet. Mainly just going off of recommendations from AT...
