When I installed windows I had to use a floppy disk to provide SATA drivers for my raptor. If I were to get another SATA drive, would I be able to just plug it in and have it be detected, or would I have to go through a similar routine? I really don't want to have to go through the hassle of digging up a floppy drive/disk, but I don't want to buy any more PATA disk drives as the interface is on its way out.

you would only have to do that on a new install. If adding a new hard drive to current install all you have to do is physically install it, boot into windows right click my computer -> manage -> disk management and format the unallocated hard drive
