Question about SATA cables and DVD-R drive

Stupid question from someone who doesn't know much about computers:

I just got a Lite-On SH-16A7S-05 drive. It came with no instructions and no cables (from Newegg).

My previous drive was a Sony which died on me. It used IDE cables.

I'm assuming I need to get "SATA cables"? Are these one size fits all, or are there different types for different pieces of equipment?

I'm assuming that one end fits into the drive and the other fits into the motherboard. If so, will my motherboard take it? I have a Dell Poweredge 400 SC.

Yea, you need a SATA cable if your poweredge will take SATA. Newegg has like 50 dvd burners, why not get something you know will work? Or at least find out beforehand?

Like I said, I had no idea. I saw it on the hot deal forum and ordered it. Stupid, I know, but like I said, I just assumed I installed it like every other DVD drive I've ever had.

stupid indeed

I think your first step, before you buy anything else, should be to punch your service tag into Dell support, take a look at your configuration, and make sure your server has SATA ports.
