Is it ok to tell a potential employer (already got the offer) that my current job offered me the same amount X as them, so I would hope they improve the offer?

Did you accept the offer? If no I would simply state "It would take this much for me to accept, since I'm already making that much at my job". Just be careful, you don't want them to think that you're playing both companies against each other in a bidding war cause that may scare them off.
In other words, give solid numbers, don't just ask them to raise their offer. If they offered you $80k and your other job matched that, tell them it'll take $90k for you to accept. They'll probably offer you $85 and you both will be happy.

They offered 55K. In the application I already put that I want 65K (before getting the offer). I was thinking to counteroffer with 60K.
I got the offer today. Gotta respond by Friday if I accept or not.

I guess I didn't explain the situation and I know I'm gonna get flamed 😛
My current job doesn't know about this offer and most likely won't match it either. The pay is higher, 401K, better benefits, and triple vacation time at this new job. I don't know where I will be happier honestly. I'm a new grad, and I don't have much experience. I like my current job and my coworkers, but the pay sucks. I was thinking of counteroffering because...well...that's the expected thing to do. Sort of. I guess is a bad idea to lie about my current employer matching the offer. I will just ask if they can do 60K. Currently reading some websites to find out the best way to ask this question 🙂

Ask for 65K and settle on 60K

If you don't have much experience, why do you feel as though you're worth more than 55K? I'm not flaming you... honest question.
