i am experiencing some frontal hairloss (not really a receding hairline, just thinning out on the top two sides, in a "v" pattern) at the age of 25. went to my derm doctor and he said it is male pattern hairloss. my parents do not have a hairloss problem but not sure about the older generations since they are not around. my doctor told me to try out minoxidil so i went to my local sam's club and got a 4 month supply of 5% minoxidil. I got home, sat down and read the instructions on the minoxidil box and it saids "not intended for frontal baldness or a receding hairline". damn... so does that mean this will not work for me!? :( does any one have any experience with using minoxidil/rogain on frontal hairloss problems?

help balding people of ATOT!

Wow, that sucks, doesn't like 99% of balding men lose it from receding hairlines?

The drug makers cannot claim it works on the front portion of the head because they never tested it in their trials. Anecdotally, some people have reported success with it. You might check out the forums here:

should work. the hair isn't significantly different so no reason it wouldn't since the mechanism of action is just vasodilation

Just do the comb over like all the cool old dudes. Works best with as few strands as possible.

I think propecia has worked in the front even though it has the same disclaimer.

Omegachi, trust me on this one, go see a dermatologist and get a perscription for propecia.

Rogaine will not help the front hair at all. I've tried it for over half a year and saw no difference. Propecia did help however w/ my receding hairline even though it has a disclaimer against it.

Ideally you should use both. Take finasteride (proscar/propecia) to prevent further hairloss (and possibly regrow some), and take the minoxidil 5% to try and regrow lost hair. If you only take the minoxidil, you will ultimately lose, because it does nothing to prevent more hair from being lost.

Nizoral 2% shampoo is also pushed as a treatment for hairloss, although I think the evidence for it is not as substantial as for finasteride and minoxidil.
