Question about Riva Tuner

Since I have the pipes/vertex unlocked on my BFG 6800 the only way to overclock through Riva Tuner is through the driver settings. Next to the chcek-box that says enable driver-level hardware overclocking there is a drop down box with 3 options: standard 2D, low power 3D, and performance 3D. When overclocking, I have always left this untouched at the default standard 2D. What does this mean? Will my overclocks still be taking effect when I play 3D-games? What is the purpose of the two 3D options? Sorry if this is a stupid question, it's just confusing the hell out of me.
