thanks dudes

btw: im calling them tomorrow to ask.

Isn't the guy to girl ratio at RIT like 10:1 or worse?

That being said, I know a couple people that went there, they were both pretty cool.

As an incoming college freshman, you sometimes don't have much say in what you take that first semester. I think I had one decision to make, and that was if I wanted to take chemistry in the afternoon or in the morning. You'll probably have more leeway during the spring semester.

Speak with your advisor or the student coordinator in your department. If there are spots availible at other times, they will probably switch you. However, remember that almost every incoming freshman has to take W&L I and very few of them want to take it at 8am. So I'd say your chances of getting it later are slim.

Depending on your program (I'm not familier with new media), you may get to pick your classes in the winter, or they may pick for you your whole first year.

Only in the Engineering and Computing schools, and in those schools it is equivilant to any major tech school. However, the guy to girl ratio is 3:2 overall, which is much better then similar tech schools, such as MIT, RPI, and WPI.

An RIT defenseman cross-checked me in the stomach and I lost my spleen. I hate that fuggin school. :|

I'm a third year student there. Your first freshman quarter is set up for you. As your seniority advances, you will be able to register earlier and more easily in the future.

i went to RIT and enjoyed it. so what kind of problems you are talking about? I have only heard about the complaint about women to men ratio but nothing else.

right now all of the sections for w&l are probably full because it's under heavy demand for incoming freshman. also, you might not even be able to change your registration yourself at this stage of seniority. they usually put a lock on your registration so you'll talk to your academic advisor about things first. 8am is nothing, you may have other classes at that time in the future and maybe your future job will start at that time as well.

Get used to it and suck it up. You're going to get stuck with an 8am class at SOME point, and after you graduate, chances are you will have to get up before 8 anyway to get to work on time. So you might as well condition yourself now, because you might one day have a REAL class at 8, not some no-brain gen ed class.

I went there to visit with a group of friends last weekend at their tour/orientation thing. I wasn't registered for it, but my girlfriend and her friend were so they went to the 2-day program while me and another friend stayed at the RIT Inn & Conference Center (about 5 miles away, oddly enough).

But what I did see of the college was that they had some well-structured classes and programs and a nice atmosphere. Also there was this interesting looking arrangement of tiles on the floor in front of a small set of steps inside a building that I don't recall the name of right now... it showed many different ideas and concepts of math and science, like the diagram of an eyeball, pi calculated to around 150 digits on the steps, some sort of old alphabet that I couldn't place, wasn't Greek, and a man with no skin and just muscle, and there was the big dipper too I think... anyway that was cool and I stared at that for a long time...

so in short, I have nothing to comment on dealing with the quality of the college itself... *runs*

Also, Tim Horton's is the greatest chain of donut shops ever.

and Niagra Falls was pretty cool...

... Stratford Canada was kind of a let down...

... toll booths suck

I both agree and disagree. I think he should try and change it, at a minimum it will make him more familier with the people in his department. However, if everything is full, he should suck it up and not whine or complain.

I sucessfully made it through 2 years of RIT before having to take 8am's this past winter and spring. However, now on my co-op, I get up at 5:30, to be at work at 7am.

What were you reasons?

Edit: I'm graduating in two quarters from RIT. 🙂

bah, stop complaining about a single 8 am class.

i have a 7:30 on tuesday and thursday, and an 8:30 on monday and friday.

however on thursday im done by 11, but friday i am not done with classes until 5:30

MIKE

last year i had one class that met at 8:30.

this year... all my classes start either at 11:30am, or 1pm 🙂 Although i'd rather have my day start around 9-10, that way i have more of the day time free to do stuff.

i too am stuck at RIT... didnt have to take 8am classes through freshman year. That sucks for you haha. had one sophmore year and it was brutal.

btw... i think i'm going to make a "How to have fun in Rochester despite going to a nerdy tech school that feels like its located in the artic" FAQ when Fall quarter rolls around. Might be handy for the freshman who get scared off in their first winter quarter

that was the A-level of the atrium of the college of science 😉

RIT sucks. Only huge nerds that never got and never will get laid go there. Have fun getting made fun of by your big brothers over at UR for four years 🙂

Please don't bring your lame-ass Star Wars and D&D loving asses on our campus or else I'll have to take your lunch money.
