Ok I have a Gateway m-6862 with an HDMI output, and I have it ran to my Mitsubishi HC1500 projector. I have set up a custom HD resolution in catalyst control center and it runs 720p resolution perfectly while on the desktop and with movies, but when I go to load a game it seems to scale back down to 1280x800 resolution (laptop monitor default res). Then when I exit the game I notice my overscan settings on the projector set back to default of 97% which overlaps the edges of the desktop a few inches. I have tried setting the monitors to extended, and also tried using multiple monitors configuration, but either of these settings still produces the down scaling and overscan issues mentioned above.

Anyone have any clues on how I can stop this from happening?

I have the same problem (overscan keeps setting back to 97% when connected to my PC via HDMI) and I called Mitsubishi and they said that there's nothing you can do about it. So I have to manually switch the overscan, or "over scan" as it says in the menu, to 100% every time I turn it on or change the resolution/refresh rate :(
