Question about reporting crimes...

It was my understanding that if you witness a crime in progress or someone being attacked, that it was your civic duty to do everything you could to prevent the crime, by either trying to stop the crime, stepping in and aiding the person being attacked, or reporting the crime. (unless it would put you in life threatening danger).

Am I mistaken?
 
Yes, you are completely mistaken when speaking of the US. Some states have quasi "Good Samaritan" laws, but they are hardly enforceable.
