Anyone here have any idea what a dealer versus an independent garage would charge to replace the 02 sensor in a 96 Civic?

I paid 125 for mine, installed. My mechanic could NOT get an aftermarket O2 sensor to work properly, and had to buy the genuine Honda replacement. If you get an aftermarket sensor and your car does not work for crap, do not blame the mechanic. You WILL pay more if you take it to a Honda dealer, but you MUST make sure that your local wrench uses the right part for the job.

Installing an O2 sensor is about as difficult as the physical aspect of installing a video card. One plug, and one screw.

Also, it's O2 for the oxygen molecule, not '02 as in class of '02. I thought you were talking about some unnamed sensor on a 2002 civic.

Do it yourself or use the independent garage. That is an easy part to replace. The dealer will be outrageous.

It can be a little difficult to get to, but, stop @ an Auto Zone, buy the tools & a Bosch sensor, it's pretty easy, about like a spark plug. Be sure to use a little anti seize compound on the new one if it's not included in the box.

You'll save a wad of money.

The dealer part is extemely expensive. Just have a garage fit a direct-fit replacement, NOT a universal, or they'll probably do something stupid like cut your Honda's wiring.
