I have two hard drives in my computer; the main drive and a storage drive.

My Storage drive (160gig) is breaking down or something because it likes to freeze up or have long pauses.

I just purchased a 1TB Samsung drive from Newegg to replace the storage drive.

I want the Samsung drive to be recognized just like my old storage drive so my music/videos associations in itunes/zune software don't get messed up.

So I was wondering what steps I should take to accomplish this.

I know I need to clone the data over but I was wondering what else I may have to do.

You want two things to happen: The replacement drive to have the exact same file structure, and the same drive letter.

The first can be accomplished by copying the data to an alternate source. Can you fit the data on the main drive? Do you have a spare hard drive laying around? Do you have a spare SATA or PATA port (which one are you using :) ). If that's the case hook it up and copy directly to the new drive, shutdown and remove the old drive, boot up and change the drive letter.

The second can be accomplished by just checking to make sure after replacing the drive it has the same letter. Open My Computer and take a look. If it does not then you'll have to change it.

Hope this helps.
