Question about removing win2k components

I can't remember where I found before where you do a quick edit on this ini file or something and then it allows you to remove windows components that you don't want on there but were installed anyway without asking. 🙂

Do you mean the sysoc.inf file? Be careful. Removing some items can cause problems. Most of the problems created this way have easy workarounds, but...

Yeah, I guess sysoc.inf is one of the files you have to use the secret handshake to see! 😀

Seriously, just go into Folder Options and tell the OS not to hide protected system files (in addition to all the other "don't hide this from me" settings). Once you get past that setting you should be able to find the sysoc.inf file. The secret is to remove the "hide" from the items you want to show up in Add/Remove Programs.

Again, do be careful about this. Be sure you know what you're setting yourself up for. As an example, if you remove Windows Messenger but have Outlook or Outlook Express set up to use it at startup, you'll be likely to see those apps take over a minute to start up! There are lots of little gotchas.

Oh I forgot about showing all files.

Well bust me in the nuts and call me cj... no wonder my outlook took like 2 min to load last before. 😀

I'll be really careful this time lol.

CJ....😀

With that sysoc.inf file you need to remove the hide entry at the end of every entry, but make sure you leave the commas in. After that go back and look at the add/remove windows components section.
