Question About Registering: When You Change PC's

Hi everyone,

I'm in a quandary because I'm not sure what is going to happen if I install my new $500 Tascam music software on my current Dell. It is not powerful enough to run the software to the full extent, but it will probably run it okay for a while. The problem is, I won't be able to put together a more powerful system in any less than 5 or 6 months. If they give me a registration key to install now on the Dell, are they going to give me a big hassle or not even allow it at all if I try to install it on the new computer in a few months? I have to have the reg. key to install (like Windows). I've never been in this position before. How is it usually handled?

Thanks much,
Dave

Have you read the license aggreement?
Do you own an OEM license or retail license?
Are you sure this product requires activation (like Windows XP)?
Even if you install XP on a computer, you can go al the way and stop at the activation point. You may say "well, what is the point of doing that?"
The point is that you can this way find out if activation is required. If not, you can install and you wil be able to install again on your upgraded PC. If, on the other hand, activation was required, you can choose to uninstall and avoid activation untill you can confirm that there will not be too much hassle once you upgraded.

Edit:
In case of XP, if you have an OEM license, you can install it only on one machine. But, if you have a retail license, you can install it on any machine as long as it is only installed on one machine at a time. So, you will not have any problem installing it on an upgrade as long as you uninstall it from the previous machine.

this is just my opinion but you could try to use the same reg key on your new machine when you get it. unless it is hardware specific to your exact machine it should work. other than that i would expect a company to give you a new license if you uninstall it from the other.

I bet if you give them a call or a proactive email on your issue they'll help you out. Customer service wise I just don't see any company giving you the shaft like that.

Don't be scared, give em a shot to make it right. :D

I think Navid has a point that this is a retail package, not OEM, so I'm sure they have a system for this. A friend at work said in a similar situation (with a different company), they gave him a new code, and that they will only give out a limited number of them. You are expected to uninstall from the previous computer, but I don't know that they have any way of confirming that. I did try calling them from work but they had me in line behind four people. I sent them an email as well so I hope I get a response soon. I'm eager to use this software!!

Thanks for the replies,
Dave
