question about registered memory

first off: hi! new here so just to let you know: I'm new here 🙂. Love AnandTech and have been reading it for some time but I still have some stuff I don't quite understand and I hope someone can fill me in...

now... I'm going to build a new rig and want to OC it. bigtime even 🙂.
but I want to know if I should take registered memory or not. problem is.... registered memory seems to be better (I think...) but to be honest, I haven't got the slightest idea what the difference is between registered and non-registered.
so... what's the difference and what brand(s) should I consider buying?

preferred specs on my new rig:
- DFI Ultra II moederbord
- AMD Barton 2500+ or higher
- Antec 480watt PSU
- ATI Radeon 9800 Pro of 9700 PRo
- watercooling
rest is still fuzzy

hope someone can help me out 🙂

Regular unbuffered memory is what you want. Your board probably doesn't support registered memory anyway.

If you want a recommenation, Corsair PC3200LL or faster gets my vote for your overclocking goals. Start with 2.7 volts on the memory voltage. Welcome to the Forums! 😎
