Question about Reg/ECC & Opteron 939

I have never used registered/ECC RAM for anything before but I am building a home workstation around an Opteron 185 that I got a good deal on.

The question I have is this...will most boards support reg/ECC RAM with an Opteron, even if they do not specify, and what are the advantages if I can?

Thanks for your input. 🙂

If I'm not mistaken...
Socket 939 (some chipsets), support un-buffered ECC memory.
Socket 939 (all chipsets), support un-buffered non-ECC memory.
Socket 940, require registered/ECC memory.

Stay far away from Registered ECC DIMMs unless your MB specifically requires it.
Read those ebay product descriptions carefully. 😉
