Question about ReFormating and Backing up Settings

Ok, I when I put XP on a new hard drive a few months back I made a 3 gig partition for just the OS so that I could format it everyonce in a while to clean it up and such. Now I'm to a point where I'd like to clean it up. My question is, is there any way that I can save my settings (such as start menu shortcuts, "tweaked" desktop settings and such to where when I reinstall winXP back onto the partition I can get my settings back to how they were? I know XP has a files and settings transfer thing on the CD.... is that what I could use? Would I just need to save the settings?

You may be able to use the transfer files and settings wizard for what you want but there is an easier way. Your Start Menu, Favorites, My Documents, etc are stored, by default, in C:\Documents and Settings\UserName. The Start Menu is built by combining the contents of C:\Documents and Settings\UserName and C:\Documents and Settings\All Users. Copying the entire C:\Documents and Settings folder to another partition should save the customizations you mentioned.

If there are other, specific settings you want to save I'll try to help as best as I can.
