i'm painted my basement ceiling red and the area has 6 recessed lights. they are white fixtures that i have taken out to paint the ceiling.

i'm wondering if anyone has ever painted recessed light fixtures. i don't know if i was to paint them a similar color with spray paint if it would then make the light coming out of there have a red tint.

has anyone ever used any recessed light fixtures in a color other than white, and if so, does it give the light the color of the fixture?

You may get a minor tint off of the fixture if the inside is painted and the bulb is fully recessed in the fixture.
Ensure the pain can handle the bulb heat.

If you want a tint; best to get some glass inserts that have the color you desire or get a colored bulb

Painting just the outside of the fixture at the ceiling edge should have no visible color impact.

Are you talking about painting the trim piece, or the entire can up near the lamp?
I would not paint inside the can. (for heat and light discoloration reasons)

i was talking about either, since i've never done it i was basically wondering in general what the best thing to do is. i'm thinking about just the trim for now though. i tested out some other plastic piece that is going into the ceiling to see how well it matches. i will test it out tonight and see if it matches well or not.

and i'm not looking for tint at all, i'm looking to try and make the ceiling as uniform colored as possible.
