If a receiver is 6.1, does that mean it can't accomodate a center channel? Or that it can accomodate either a center channel or 2 left/right channels?

I think the 6.1 setup (or at least Dolby Digital EX) adds a Rear Center channel to a regular 5.1 setup. So you will still have your front center for dialogue and such.

Also, 6.1 and 7.1 receivers don't make you buy 6 or 7, you can still buy a 5.1 speaker setup instead if you want.

Onkyo is a good brand in the $250-400 range. www.jr.com has good deals on remaining new and factory refurb model 602 receivers.

It's more of a to the side on the surrounds if possible.
