I am looking to buy some RCA type cables because I am going to capture some video with my composite inputs on my TV wonder. I got to thinking is there really any difference between the 2 audio cables and the one that is designed for video?
Also I went to wamart last night and they had dubbing cables, coaxiel cables, audio cables, and they all had the rca type ends on them. Whats is the difference between all these?

I also need an s-video to composite converter for something else. If anyone knows where I can get a cheap one of these it would be appreciated.

Thanks for any info

I don't think you will have any problem capturing video with the RCA audio cable cause I've used the video for audio before and it worked fine. I think they just lable them differently so you'll buy other cables heh. Coax cables do look like RCA cables, but there is a distinct difference here. These are digital cables that pass through all the channels through the one cable, unlike the RCA which is different.

If you want to find a converter for S-video to RCA, try Radio Shack, they might have them there. I got an S-video to composite converter one time with my video card for tv out so I know they make them. Try some electronic shops, they probably have what you are looking for.

There is no electrical difference between the RCA cables used for Audio and the ones used for Video. Sometimes the ones used for Video are shielded and have a thicker cable due to the shielding but they are still 75ohm cables.

Dubbing cables are typicaly three cables bound together 1 video (yellow), and a set of audio (red and white). They are called "Dubbing" because they are meant to connect two VCR's together to record from one to another.. that is the classic definition. They would work fine for what you want to do.

Coax Cables are the kind with the threaded matal connection that you typicaly see in Television and cable applications. They carry audio and video signals and are typicaly just used for TV/Cable systems. Per Mavricks info above Coax Cable could also be referred to the type used in Digital Audio applications. These connections typicaly have an Orange color. The Digital Coax Cables that look like RCA cabels are in fact just plain old 75ohm RCA cables just like the kind used for Video and Audio.

Any set of basic cables will work just fine for your video capture. Don't spend a whole lot on them since you're only doing casual video capture and its going to your TV wonder. Did the TV wonder come with cables when you got it?

Finally, RadioShack has a Svideo to RCA converter. I don't know the price off hand ( I think its $10). There are also places on the web that sell them. I would pick one up locally so you can return it if you aren't pleased with the results.
I hope this answers some of your questions!
