Question about RC5

Im running my dual athlon system dedicated to doing RC5 calculations. Now, it says that Im calculating an average of about 8 Mkeys/s. Yet, when I look on the stats page for distributed.net (stats.distributed.net) I find that the highest person overall is only generating about 4 million keys a second! Now, can it really be that some distributing n00b can really be generating TWICE the amount of keys as the next best person in such a huge contest? I'd really like some insight here.

Where exactly on the statsbox are you looking at? I'm not seeing anything like what you're talking about.

Well, Im looking in the bracketed area on the RC5 client. The reason Im not on any of the stats pages is because I've never completed a dump before. I've only had this thing on for a few hours, so my rate has never been recorded via dumping.

Regarding that RC5@resnet guy, it says that his current rate is approximately 1,244,387.86

Now, I dont know exactly what that means. Is that measured in millions of keys per second, or in keys per second?

That 1,244,388 figure is in kilokeys per second. Divide by 1000 for his Megakeys per second. Looks like his/their rate for the day was 1244Mk/sec. I believe this account represents Depaul University, which explains where they get that kind of output. As JonB told me when I was a n00b, there's strength in numbers. 😀

What is your system like, anyway, are you using a TigerMP or one of the 760MPX motherboards?
