question about RAM

we have an old computer with 512mb of ddr pc3200 ram, and we have another old computer that just died which has 512mb of either pc2300 or 2700.

i know that if i insert either of these sticks the default speed would feel, but would the benefit of having more memory outweigh the reduced speeds?

Go for. More memory is always good even at slightly reduced speeds.
