Question about quitting my job...

This is my first real job out of college, and I absolutely hate it...it hardly has to do anything with my field of study, has no room to advance, is pretty stressful, i almost never take my lunch breaks (and when i do they call me back because there's a fvcking "huge problem"), and usually stay late...i'm a CS major and I feel like i'm doing secretarial work (i manage the edi for a small company)..

I know i'm better off finding another job before I quit, but how bad does it look to potential employers that i quit my job?

Potential employers will probably ask questions about gaps in work history.

Find a job while at your current employment. When they ask why you are looking just say you are looking for opportunities to advance your career or some other such mumbo-jumbo.

Don't quit your current job before finding another unless you absolutely have to.

they do. you need to cover that one up very carefully. they don't want you to say "this wasn't an ideal work environment for me" because they may assume that it was you who was at fault.

if your quitting a job where you have a lot of powers it looks bad

if you quit a job like mcdonalds who the fvck cares?

Thus why list either on the resume?

i think quitting one job is not a big deal.

but if you have a history of leaving jobs, that could hurt your chances.

It really only looks bad under 2 conditions:

-You're quitting a job that exactly desribes the one you are looking for with them.
-You've quit multiple jobs in a short period of time.

You should be good to go.

If you plan on quitting, you should try being more assertive with them and do what you want to do anyway. If your work isn't done and you aren't on deadline... go home. If you want a lunch break, take it. Don't come back when they need you, tell them you're on break and there is no emergency too bad that can't wait an extra 30-45 minutes. Grow some balls.

Just say you are looking for a job that is an upward move for you; that there was no upward mobility at your old job.

well as luck may have it vonage actually just called me up requesting a phone interview...unfortunately i was at work when he called and i asked if i could call him back...

even cooler is the fact that the office is about 10 miles away from my home, as opposed to my current job which is 50 miles away..

ok so with vonage it looks like i'll be doing something i really want to, but the open shift sucks (3:30pm to midnight) plus i'll be working saturdays, not to mention they're paying even less than my current job...

argh i dunno what to do..

Well, I would not quit if I didn't have some serious prospects. I mean, you won't have health insurance while out of work!

I'd really consider finding a new job before quitting the current one. It pays the bills, ya know?
