question about putting speakers near monitors

When some people post pictures of their workstation and it shows a shelf system's speakers on both sides of the monitor people point out that it's not good for the monitor or something. I 'm just wondering why it isn't good for the monitor.

Put a magnet on your monitor screen and see what happens.
I think degouse shakes it all back to normal (most times).

Ever play with a electron gun? That's basically what your CRT monitor is. LCD TFTs arent effected by speakers ...

if you have an old TV laying around, plug it in and stick a magnet next to it. You'll see distortion right away, but prolonged exposer will demagnetize it, leaving the picture very fudged up. PC speakers and some shelf speakers are shielded however.

Strange how a cellphone will cause distortion on the computer speakers but no on its own little speaker 🙂

Those are fine. They were meant to be close the CRT. They basically have the speaker's magnet shielded. Same goes for a home theater system, if your L/R speakers aren't sheilded you need to put them some distance from the TV.....the center channel speaker 'better' be sheilded 🙂

All quality computer speakers are sheilded...as far as I know 🙂

My room mate actauly has our dorm room CORDED phone his desk by his monitor. When the phone is there it looks fine but take it away the monitor turns purplish at the bottem. I didn't think that a corded phone would do that but apperatly it does. We didn't know about it till we changed our room around and noticed it when we set everything back up. So now he always has to have the phone near it or the monitor is all messed up. =( Glad it wasn't on my side lol =)
