Im putting in my two weeks notice at Circuit ****** tomorrow, for many different reasons. I could go into them in detail if need be but I'd like to keep this short and sweet. After working there for 3 years and being put up in the manager training program, do you think I should state why Im leaving or should I just simply state my two weeks notice and let it be that?

I wouldn't say anything. Just tell them you're looking for something new or more challenges or you're going to go to law school.

I, Chad xxxxx officially give you notice of my two weeks resignation on this day of August 2, 2006. My last day will be August 16, 2006.

Good cal, I like that. Now part of the reason Im doing this is a pre-emptive strike so they cannot fire me. I highly doubt they would, but I do not want to take the chances. Basically some crap went down with an employee and me. Unfortunately this employee happens to be dating the daughter of the district manager. Long story short I should not be fired for this (not even close, it was mereley an argument) however with who he is there is rumor going around they might. So I want to quit before they can terminate me so I can still use CC as a reference. After all 3 years there and a lot of managers scattered throughout the company now really like me, this is the only run in Ive ever had and Im not gonna lose a good reference over stupid sh!t.

With that said, do you think its important to obtain any sort of signature/verification that they receieved my two weeks so they can't try to pull the "You can't quit, you're fired" card? Or am I just being a bit to paranoid?

let them fire you. if the managers like you you can still use them as a reference even if you get fired for a BS reason. and the plus is you will get to collect unemployment while you search for a new job

Legally they cannot fire you over something of this nature. I think you're being a little too paranoid. If the arguement was just that, an argument, you have nothing to worry about. You may be pulled aside to discuss the details of the arguement but that should be it.

During the arguement, did you at any time say anything offensive to him?

No good. First of all I will have to put I was terminated, not that I quit willingly on new job applications. Second of all I will not collect unemployment. If Im not mistaken new employers do look at that, not to mention I don't need it. I can work with my g/fs dad temporarily until I find something new. And third of all although I do need to find a new job, if it takes 3 -4 weeks it won't be the end of the world. I have money saved up so that I can afford to pay my bills for a month or even two if need really be. (Although I won't let it get to that).

Not to mention I don't want to give them the satisfaction.

before you leave can you score a bunch of the buy one get one free glitch PC games for us?

you know, at CC this week, if you buy any PC games for under 19.99, the second game will be 0.01

case in point for one of my many trials:
NBA Live 06: $9.98
Prey DVD: $54.99 = 0.01
Checked out: $10.83 After tax.

i can't wait to find some 5 dollar games and grab me Guild Wars and Titan Quest.

To a certain extent. I told him he never did any worked, called him lazy/useless probably. Also said that I hoped he got fired :) Nothing derogatory or threatening though. He did however threaten me at one point. I feel anything that happens to me should happen to him. I don't really care at this point though. Its not a risk Im willing to take and I want to leave the company anyway. Im very tired of all the BS that goes on at this job. Staying any longer is just prolonging the future I may soon have. I can find a better job easy.

Im good at sales so I figure I'll go do some cell phone sales for awhile. That'll tie me over while I finish up school/decide what I want to do with my life.

I don't think any real job will care that some stupid retail box store fired you. and even if they did the fact your listing a old manager as a reference and you telling what actaully happend they won't give a crap. and why won't you take unemployment? its not the goverments money its circuit city's by quiting you are helping them not the other way around. One of the reasons there is unemployment is to act as a deterent to fireing people for BS reasons.

Thank you. Ive worked at Circuit City for three years. Although it is a crappy retail job, it will help me easily get other crappy retail jobs. No need to lose a 3 year reference over some stupid BS. I was planning on leaving anyways.

If you are fired for misconduct, you are not eligible for unemployment benefits.

http://www.floridajobs.org/unemployment/bri/BRIRev42005.pdf

  • Quitting either part-time or full-time work for personal reasons. Benefit payments can only be paid if you quit for good cause attributable to your employer or for a personal illness or disability that made it necessary for you to leave the job.
  • Being discharged for misconduct connected with work. Misconduct is an intentional or
controllable act or failure to take action, which shows a deliberate disregard of the employer?s interests. Misconduct may include breaking a known company policy.
  • Not being able to work or available for work. You must be able, ready and willing to accept a suitable job immediately. You must also be able to get to work and have adequate child care in order to be able to work.
  • Refusing an offer of suitable work.
  • Being on a leave of absence you requested.
  • Knowingly making false statements to obtain benefit payments.

If you are sure that you did/said nothing offensive to him, why don't you call HR and lodge a complaint against him. Once HR is involved, they 'should' open an investigation and get all parties who were involved to submit statements and work everything out...blah blah blah. I seriously doubt they would fire you if you start the process.

Crappy job or not, it shows you are dependable. That's one of the first things I look at during the resume/application glance over. If a person transfers jobs on a regular basis, they go into the "No" pile. Employers want people to stay with the company, not make a few extra bucks and ditch out which costs the company quite a bit of time and money to go through the training process.

Already given written statement. Some things I said are borderline inappropriate. And it all went down while a few customers are nearby. By no means should it be grounds for termination, however I could understand some sort of verbal/written warning. Again though, I do not want to risk it... especially in a situation like this. If it was involving someone else it may be less of an issue, but this kid is a real piece of crap and so is the district manager. And I don't really care that Im leaving, I wanted to leave anyway so this is just a catalyst to get me off my lazy ass and find a better job.

you ain't got to tell them why you're leaving. Hell, you don't even have to give them 2 weeks because you're an At WIll Employee, which means you can fire them anytime and they can fire them anytime

they would have to prove its misconduct, and if its a really a BS reason he is being fired for it won't hold up.

I'm still the only one I've heard of who has done it....

Cut out letters from magazines, and submit your resignation in the form of a ransom letter, i.e. using the cut out letters, spell out the notice of resignation. :)
