I just got a push up bar. I do a lot of push ups so I thought the wider range of motion would help for working the pecs.

I've used it a bit, but I mostly feel it in my shoulders.

Can you do any damage to your shoulders by doing too many push ups. Are there any techinques when doing push ups to work the pecs?

ah i see.

no, there should be no possible way for you to hurt yourself unless one of those bars slip and you fall onto the ground. If you're doing it like the guy in the pics you're doing some very mediocre dips, which works mostly triceps. Depends which way youre using that thing though

I'm doing both push ups and dips. If I put my hands wider apart, I should work the pecs better, shouldn't I?

Bench press is better for pecs then push ups unless you want to hit 100 push ups or so for the fun of it.

Can't damage your shoulders much as long as your not stiff in them to start with. Also don't crash to the bottom when your doing down. Go down at a steady pace and up as fast as you want.

Try doing push ups with a bag on your back. Load the bag with weights or books and do push ups. Aim to be able to hit 10 for 4 sets with weights in your bag. Increase the weight until you struggle to hit 10r x 4sets. That will make it harder for you. The number of push ups you do won't affect your pecs much as its more to do with muscle endurance. Aim to make each push up harder.

Keep your legs straight and togehter that makes it harder.

Try a one handed one with straight legs together and not your legs split apart. I can hit 5 then I am TOAST. After that my arm feels a surge of pain where the muscle is expecting the tension its been under but isn't so it feels painful for a bit.

If you do dips and lean forwards it works the pecs better but the dips mainly work your triceps and pecs a little. These are doing dips on two free standing bars so your weight is completely on the arms though and your feet are off the ground. If you do them like in the picture then your taking away the weight that is on your arms and pecs.......

Bench press for your pecs.

My muscles are effed up right now from doing 10 pushups on Thursday lol.
:disgust:That is pathetic.

Agreed! Blech..

In high school I could pretty much do pushups until you told me to stop. Now, using dumbells as a poor-man's pushup bar, I can do about sixty at once.
