Question about PS2 model numbers

Hey guys. I got a question about the PS2 model numbers. If i have a PS2 that has a model number SCHP-30001 R and bought a ps2 with a model number SCHP-30001 (no r) and swithced the mainboards (mine is broken :() would it make a difference in the system?

Oh sorry. Forgot to add that the one im thinking of buying has a broken laser. But nothing is wrong with mainboard

as mentioned a few posts up, the system i am buying has problems with its laser but i just want its mainboard

why dont you take your working laser and replace that instead of trying to replace the whole board

all diff model numbers take different parts. i have a SCHP-30001 R V5 PS2. i just want to know if i buy anything other that will all the parts..co-op or work with eachother?..i dont want to buy a different PS2 and have the parts not work if they are different model numbers..

IIRC the R means it has the firmware for the remote control so you don't need to put the drivers on the mem card.
