People actually pre-order video games?
I've never not been able to pick up a game on release day. Even when the Gamestop puts them out a day before everyone else. Sure they blab away about how I need to pre-order & they _always_ have just the one extra that's not claimed... I just tune out their ramblings.![]()

Say a game is to be released on 3/19/08 and was pre-ordered through Best Buy. When does the game typically ship? Does it ship prior to release for delivery on/around release date or does it not ship until release date?
The only reason I pre-ordered was to use Best Buy so I could use my BB Rewards Zone card. The nearest BB is over an hour away.Originally posted by: CrackRabbit
To tell you the truth, unless you want a Wii console there isn't much point in pre-ordering anything anymore.
The last time I can think of a store not having enough of a game to satisfy demand was when Zelda: Ocarina of Time was released for the N64.

for DVD's, DVDempire will ship out a bit earlier than amazon, but their prices are a little higher...more often than not, their customers would get their titles on Monday (at least from what I recall from some high def forums)...
I ordered I am Legend on blu ray using Amazon Prime and it shipped yesterday and will arrive tomorrow...

I used to be a Gamestop manager many moons ago and I assure you that it all really just depends on the game. Games now adays don't get near the hype (at least I don't think so) that they used to. I remember when Final Fantasy X came out, and we sold out of our store that same day. Wind Waker on gamecube sold out every copy when we did a 12:00am store opening by 2am (they were all reserves). Let's not forget all those stupid pokemon games on the GBA. They sold so fast I swear I have nightmares still of little kids crying when we ran out of Pokemon Silver/Gold....AGHHH!
EDIT: To the OP, Gamestop usually gets the games a few days before the release date, but it also depends on the title. Let's say a game comes out on Friday of said week. We'll usually get it on Tuesday. The more copies and interest in a game, the more days in advance we got the game. I think we had something like 300 copies of Wind waker when it came out and we got it a week before it was supposed to release.

Indeed. I used to work at GameStop also. We'd often sell unclaimed "reserved" copies of games to walk-in customers if we had a lot of them.
