i just purchased a Sharp MD-DR7 minidisc recorder from japan. it comes with an ac adapter that is designed for 100v (japanese) power lines. its a 5v DC 800ma adapter.

i went to radio shack to get a new ac adapter but the morons working there said they dont carry anything like that, so i went to walmart instead and found a universal ac adapter designed for digital cameras.
says "compatable with most digital cameras requiring 3.0/3.3/5.0/6.0/6.5/7.0v DC" and it is 2100ma

i don't know squat about power and stuff... wondering if this new ac adapter i got will work OK with the minidisc recorder. the thing i'm worried about is the 800ma on the original ac adapter, and 2100ma on the new one.

i don't want to fry a $300 minidisc recorder i just got. help would be appreciated :)

As long as the voltage ratings are the same and the adapter has a higher or equal amp rating as the original, it'll be fine.

The XXXma rating is only used if needed. In other words, if a device only pulls 500ma, you can use a 2100ma Power supply... it only pulls what it needs.

just to be on the safe side, just get an 5v ac adapter that is at least 800ma from radio shack.
10volts does make a difference for the lifespan of the item, it might shorten the battery life for the minidisc, and other minor things.

US is 120V, not 110V... so it's a 20v difference, a little more significant.

As they've said, just get a 5vDC adapter that is rated at 800mA or more, and you will be fine..
