Question about Power consumption between AthlonXP and Northwood...

Does anybody know how much power on average these processors consume? I'm getting ready to build a new system, and since I use weak fans on my case (I prefer quiet over speed), this will be the major deciding point.

Also, is it true that Northwood might be out by the end of this month?

i dont know the answer to your question....lol...but i ahve to say this cuz its just funny...i just threw together a plll system..ussint the tulatin 1.26 cpu...that thing runs cooler the ambient temperature....i thought it was a mistake so i am like feeling all around the heatsink...its cold to the touch
so when the p4 hits the .13 die and ddr platforms are out and about for this thing....well its gonna be interesting

Actually... that was very helpful. Maybe I should be considering the Tulatin as well since it's gotta be the best performance/power usage.

I haven't found it anywhere yet, but it has been officially released. The Celeron 1200 utilizes the Tualatin core on a 100Mhz fsb. Put it on a 133MHz fsb and you have a 1600MHz Tualatin, the price is supposed to be arround $100! Toms Hardware did a review on one and got it to run 1500MHz with no core voltage adjustments.

Maybe Intel has another Celeron 300A on their hands... :)

With no voltage adjustments, the core's temps won't be too much higher than at stock speed, so the new Celerons are looking better and better... Plus, I can use my current RAM. This new rig should last me until RDRAM pricess drop, DDR chipsets for P4 are out, or AMD transitions to a 0.13um process.
