Question about Plextor UltraPlex 40X CDRom?

I had problems with my Plextor Cdrom reading CDRs, so I asked Plextor to replace it and they did, but what is bothering me now is

1) I initially paid for a unit that was built in December of 1999; they sent me an older one made on December 1998.
2) The previous unit extracted audio at 24X ? 26X, the replacement extracts only at 10X ? 12X.
3) I noticed that the firmware of the older unit is different (1.04) from the one that I initially bought.

Do you guys have the unit that uses the firmware 1.04 and at what speed does youurs extract audio?

then go the other way?
when you return something the manufacturer usually replace with a refurb. Don't know about plextor though. if the dae is too slow for the spec then you can maybe ask for another exchange, since it would qualify as defective?
