How succeptable are PDAs to data loss? Do they crash at all like PCs? Will a magnetic field erase the data?

Don't know about WinCE devices but my Palm has never crashed or lost data or been erased by airport x-ray machines or anything like that. 100% smooth and dependable.

PDA's store info in RAM, which is not based on magnetic disks (i.e. hard drives) so magnetic fields specifically shouldn't be a problem. I too have had my IIIxe for a while and never had any problems whatsoever

Part of my reason for buying a Palm was so that I would have all my addresses, etc. in a safe and stable operating environment, as opposed to my regular rig which gets a format and reinstall every few months.

With palms, there is only one memory loss glitch that I'm aware of, and that involves Palm Vx, and other palms using a particular 8-mb chip; you can check their website.

I actually had a palm 3 that died royally and still can't figure out what the hell happened. But the next one that I got (palm IIIxe) is a dream.

I've never had my memory erased, but my friend has after a nasty drop. It basically "hard resetted" itself, which erases all memory. But if you sync with your desktop regularly, you can get your all info back onto the palm with one quick sync.

Exactly. I have my Palm sync'ed with my desktop at work, my desktop at home, and my laptop. So a lot would have to go wrong before my data would be lost.

never seriously crashed my palm before. dunno anything about subjecting it to strong magnectic fields though. but that doesn't usually happen to us right? :)
