Question about PCIe 16x Slot #2

I have a P35 based mobo (Gigabyte GA-P35-DQ6) and I was wondering if i can use the secondary PCIe 16x slot (I know it will operate only 4x max) for my PCIe 1x soundcard instead. The PCIe 1x slots I have are too close to the primary PCIe 16x slot (currently populated with an 8800GTX) and I only have PCI slots after the secondary PCIe slot.
