Question about participating in contests/promotions

Do State and Federal law prohibits anyone under the age of 18 from participating in contests and promotions?

If so, can anybody find this written? I've been looking, but can't find anything 😕

There are no federal laws preventing under 18 in general. But many times promoters dont want bad press.
So if Playboy has a promotion/contest for a weekend at the mansion, they would probably make a rule that says 18 or 21 only.
I mean, we've all heard stories about what happens at The Mansion.

And of course you cant buy lotto tickets under 18, but that is a specific law (state to state), not a general federal one. And each state has their own rules. Most consider it to be a form of gambling.

I am curious as to what sparked your interest. Is there a particular situation that brought this on?

All of AMD's contests they have are 18+...I asked why, and their response:

Daniel,

State and Federal law prohibits anyone under the age of 18 from participating in contests and promotions. If you would like to see these laws changed, we suggest you write your State and Federal representatives.

It doesn't sound right, because I've seen contests aimed at minors before 😕

EDIT: Yeah, I won something from them because I"m a solution provider, and didn't want to be a douche and lie on my addidavit of eligibility. Now they don't want to give me my prize 🙁

I dont think that meant state and federal law prohibit minors from ALL contests, because you are right about all the stuff aimed at kids.

I think they meant that because of the specifics in THEIR contest, certain laws made it unavailable to minors.

I would understand if I won the grand prize or something (being some sort of trip to hawaii or somewhere), however a memory stick pen set hardly seems like something 18+
