Question about P4 2.2 and Temps

The idle temp for my 2.2 P4 is around 55 degrees celsius. It's running at stock speeds. Sometimes under heavy loads, the computer shuts down.
My comp is a Sony Vaio.

Anyone have any ideas what could be the problem?

Thats running awfully hot, I would first check the cpu fan/ then case fans for working

That thing is too hot. Sounds like the h/s fan need to be re-installed........

55c, WOW ! Most I get is 53-54c o/ced to 3.1...... Yep that baby needs a 'look under the hood' ;)

Take the HSF , scrape off what ever compound Sony has on there CPU's (which is probably thermal tape ) and replace it will some Artic Silver.

ALso, sounds like the air flow in the case might be backed up... Blow dust out of the congested areas and what not...

I cleaned out the dust and stuff; I'm pretty sure the heatsink contact to the CPU is good because the heatsink gets pretty hot fast.

I think it's because the fan that is suppose to blow air onto the heatsink is pretty weak, and on top of that there is a huge 12cm by 12cm fan that sits directly on top of the heatsink fan (heatsink fan and 12x12 fan are PARALLEL). The 12x12 fan is inside a power supply that acts as the exaust; it sucks out the air which the heatsink fan is trying to be blown against the CPU.

Doesn't the heatsink need air to be blown onto it?
