Question about P2P.

With Kazaa(Lite) does your ranking go up for the total number of uploads you allow, or is it the number of uploads without cutting off your connection?😛

Total number of uploads minus your downloads. The best way to max out your rating is to leave Kazaa Lite running overnight for a few days. Sharing popular files will help, of course.

i can't remember where, but somewhere on kazaa there is a formula that tells you how the rating is derived. i remember that files that were rated were worth more.

WinMX is like Kazaa, but usually better selection. DC is more like IRC, you connect to "hubs" and share files with ppl on the same hub.

DC is great but you'll need at least 1gig of media in order to join even the sleeziest of servers. Kazaa Lite is a great place to start. I find that DC is too crowded and you often have to wait for slots to open. What's upsetting is that you cannot download a file from multiple sources at once to speed the transfer up. You also have to watch your downloads like a hawk because you're left to fend for yourself once the person you're downloading from exits DC.

DC is only good for older stuff, because people need to shrare so many gigs (most good hubs I know are 20 gig req.), they tend to keep older stuff shared. For anything new, I would never use DC.

WinMX also offers multi-point downloads and a much better network overall in my opinion. It is also alot easier to find the more obscure/older music on WinMX also.
