Question about Overtime...

Can you be *forced* to work overtime? My boss has been having me come in every other Saturday and honestly, I'm tired of working it and I'd rather sit home, money or not. I live in NJ, if that's helpful.

Thanks!

you don't have to do anything you don't want to. It's a free country. Just understand the repurcussions.

I'm looking for another job. The question is a legal one -- can you be forced to work overtime, if you are paid hourly?

Hello Peter. What's happening? Um, I'm gonna need you go ahead and come
in tomorrow. So if you could be here around nine, that would be great.
(starts to walk away) Oh, oh, yea?I forgot. I'm gonna also need you to
come in Sunday too. We, uh, lost some people this week and we need to
sorta catch up. Thanks.

Yes. You can be forced to work overtime provided you are paid overtime pay.
There are certain exceptions however but they deal with healthcare mainly.

What if you're on salary, can you still be forced to work overtime even though you aren't being paid to do those extra hours?

Question isn't regarding me, just always wondered how that worked.

You cannot be forced to work Overtime. But you can be fired for any reason since most if not all employment is At Will. So basically, if you want to keep the job, you can be "forced" to do just about anything.
