Question about Orbitz.com

What exactly happens if you cancel a "non-refundable" ticket? does it actually refund you but take a fee while doing so? or does it just give you credit to order another ticket. Any help is appreciated.

First of all, let's define a nonrefundable ticket

nonrefundable ticket

An airline ticket for which you cannot get your money back if you decide not to travel. Each airline has its own policies and exceptions regarding nonrefundable tickets. For example, many airlines will allow you to apply the amount of an unused ticket towards a later flight, subject to a fee.

so the answer is no, you do not get your money back. You would check the policy of the airline to see if you can apply it to a later flight.

that's pretty much what I was thinking because there is still the option to change it to another date... So I think it's more about credit if anything.

*mom works for an airline*

If they allow you to do anything they are going to charge you a pretty hefty fee to change the date. Most likely around $100-200 depending on the airline.
