Well, exactly how many different versions of the Opertron are there?

Also, if I get a dual operatron system, will I be able to use Windows XP pro? Or do I need to pick up server or something? And will there be a performance difference between which OS I can use? And will a operatron system be good for gaming? (Trying to kill two birds with one stone)

windows xp does support a maximum of 2 CPUs. dual opterons soley for gaming is a waste of money, because most games are still written single threaded. just get a fx-55.

Opteron. Opteron.
There is currently only one version of the Opteron.
There are three series, though:
1xx: single-CPU. Basically charging you more than an Athlon64 if you want registered ECC.
2xx: 2-CPU.
8xx: 4-CPU and 8-CPU.

Opterons should perform on par with Athlon64 parts. A 2.2GHz Opteron should be even with a socket-939 2.2GHz Athlon64. Dual won't net you a performance increase. If you want a gaming rig/workstation, expect performance to be that of a single-CPU system in games.

Not soley for gaming, because I learn new things about computers all the time, so I wouldn't mind having a ton of money to use it on a nice rig.

How do you plan to use your Opeterarnorn? Tell us how, and we can explain the best use of one or more Otpreantroannonarnterprops for your system.
