Question about OEM Core2 Duos

Sav

Senior member
Hey Guys,

Does anyone sell OEM Core2 Duos? I really don't need the fan and heatsink because I'll be buying an aftermarket one, but I cant find any sites that sell the OEM. I remember new egg used to sell plenty of AMD OEM CPUs back in the day (4-5 years ago).

Thanks!

Is there any advantage of getting a retail if the HSF is getting replaced anyway? Are there reasons, like warranty or something, that would make one want to get the retail over the OEM?
Thanks

Yes they do. You can get an OEM E6400 @ microcenter for $159.99

I saw the post on the coupons forum but it seems like they sold out in within an hour and I had missed it. Is this a one time thing or do they usually stock them?

Thanks!

OEM carry a 1-year Manufacturer Warranty.

A Retail box carries a 3-year Manufacturer Warranty.

Overclocking voids the warranty regardless, so it doesn't matter for most of us.

A lot of time you can have luck with smaller sellers. I bought an OEM E6600 from Edge Gaming Systems for $300, which included shipping to Spain and I also bought an XFX 8800GTX from him as well. You can try to email him as he is very responsive to emails if he has any OEMs in stock. His webpage is still under contruction though http://www.edgegs.com. He is based in New Jersey.
Not trying to push him, just letting you know that he is a good seller when I bought my system.

thanks for the info. I guess I'll go for an OEM, bc I'm going to OC. But being on my own with no warranty makes me scared (never overclocked before) I'm from NY, so I'll try that seller you mentioned, shroud72, thanks.

Thanks for the info on the seller Hajpoj. Are there any other sellers that sell the OEM CPUs? I'd feel more comfortable ordering from a well known reputable website just for security sake.

Is there a way I could see a list of all places that intel would supply OEM chips to in Ohio? Like small computer stores.

I got an OEM E6600 for $270 from the Microcenter B&M store in Ohio (there are at least two stores in OH -- Cincy and Columbus).

Is there any kind of Flash memory or so on the chip that logs input voltage and FSB freq.? If not, isn't it terribly difficult for Intel or AMD to know if a chips has been OCed (especially if done at a moderate voltage like a Core2 doing 3+GHz on stock voltage).
