Question about NTFS and FAT32

I have an external HD that I will need to use to back up files from several different machines.

The issue is that some of the machines run Win98 (may still be one with Win95), while some run WinXP.

Am I going to have an issue trying to write the 2 different file systems to one drive?
 
What filesystem will be on the external drive? If it's FAT32, you won't have a problem, whereas if it's NTFS, the Win9x boxes won't be able to work with it. The filesystems on each computer is irrelevent.
