question about Norton Ghost files

Hi,

What is the difference between .img files and .gho files. Are there any advantages to using one over the other?

I am guessing, but not absolutely certain that one is a partition image and one is a whole disk image. We always ghost a whole disk here and have only ever gotten .gho files from it.
