Question about new system and installing winXP

Ok I should be getting components for my system thursday or friday. On my current system I have win 98SE, never dealt with XP.
So...what I basically want to know is a general Idea how I go about installing it etc...
I want to use NTFS, is that something I do before/during/after install??

I'll be using a academic or whatever it you call it XP disc from college, which I'm pretty sure doesn't have documentation(getting tommorow).
Any issues I should know about using that? I've already downloaded SP1 and have it saved...anything to know about that, and academic disc?

Am i just worrying too much? =)
