Question about 'new' camera. . .

episodic

Lifer
Just ordered a canon s2 IS, new. Arrived today, took some shots, and the image numbering started with img_0427

It is my understanding that canon cameras start number with 0000 - and that is what has happened in the past.

I thought maybe for a minute it was because I had not reformatted with my sd card - but my last camera an a530 had over 1000 shots on it, so it would not have started at 427.

Do I need to return this?

Update:

1st Customer Service Representative

We will send you a new camera via 2 day shipping. We will send you an email in a few minutes confirming that.

Wait an hour no email.

2nd Customer Service Representative
Tells me that they have to have the product in their warehouse before they will return the new one to me. I mention what the other service representative said, and their are lots of 'please hold' and reiterating the same thing. Then tells me that the email will be 24 hours. I mention I have something important Sunday going on that I need my camera for, and that I really need the replacement here by Friday at the latest, she just keeps repeating the same stuff over and over.

I'm about to pull my hair out.

I called canon usa. They confirmed a new s2is should start at img_0001 - and that the only way that it was at img_0427 is that 427 shots had been taken with it. So, I just called griped and am getting a return. I really hate that. I've been waiting for this camera for a while.

They are supposedly 2nd daying me another one.

What does that have to do with anything?

I wasn't griping about usps - I was griping about shipping something with no accurate tracking.

I don't know for sure about the S2, but if you put a card from another canon camera in it, it can mess with the counter.

this reminds me of a thread from some time ago where a guy bought a memory card brand new from Circuit City or something. He took a few pics, and accidentally deleted one of the pics he wanted.

After running an undelete program on the card, he found like 20 other pics that he had never taken

Weird. I got a Rebel XT off ebay, buyer stated he used it 3 times for like an hour each.

Unload some pics, starts at 6900. You took 6900 pics in 3 hours? rrrrright
