Question about Networking a Cable Modem

I just got cable internet... and wanted to link another computer in my home to be able to use the service as well. I have an RCA cable modem that my cable service connected/provided. It is connected to my computer via a USB network adapter. I bought a hub ... Linksys fast ethernet 10/100 5-port hub.. I was told I could link the cable modem into the "uplink" and then connect my computer and another computer via the hub and we could both be connected. Ok, please realize I have never "networked" .. setup a hub, etc.. so I am admitting my stupdity here and begging for help LOL! My computer works via the hub.. I have the cable modem in the uplink port.. my computer in port 1... I added a network card to my other computer and put the cable in the network card and then into port 2 on the hub and it will not connect to the internet... does any of this even make sense? LOL am I providing the right information in order for someone to try to tell me what I am majorly doing wrong? I would appreciate any help.. thanks so much! ~Vanessa (who is VERY confused in Atlanta, GA)

Thanks so much for responding and for the link to the information. I will have to check about the IP's.. I am not sure.. I know that they told me (they being the cable company) that I could have more than one computer (up to 13 they said) connected. I have tried all night to get the Internet Connection Sharing setup on my computer... I get to a certain point and it will not let me choose a way that I connect to the internet.. it says (during the wizard setup) that is cannot detect a network / how the computer connects to the net and I have no options to choose so I cannot get past setting up the Sharing option. So it's most likely the user rather than the computer LOL! Thanks again for the link and responding!

ICS required a secound NIC..

Just read up on that thread, then ask more questions, it should answer most of it🙂
