Wondered what the differences were between RJ-45, BNC, & AUI cables
for a small 10 mbps home network? ie direct, no hubs or switches. I know what they all look like, was curious about relative transfer speeds, full-duplex support, & how common they all are today... TIA

the only surviving cable standard is the RJ-45 now.. I haven't see a card that has AUI connector for a long time, and BNC pretty much died down ever since the introduction of fast ethernet, since BNC only supports 10mbps. All the new NICs have only RJ-45 connectors on them now.. (well, except the high speed gigabit cards)

Or fiber. Go with CAT5 or CAT5e cable, even if you are on a slower 10 base T network. This way you can upgrade really cheap later. Network cards and switches are getting cheap.

If you are going between two computers, use a crossover cable to connect the two machines with RJ45. This way you won't need a hub or anything else. And try and get the CAT5
