I was just wondering how to secure my network. I've been having a tough time getting my wireless network in my apartment because there are several wireless networks in the vecinity of my own apartment, and I would mooch, but they too are secured. I don't have any clue how to do it to mine...

could someone help me out?

I appreciate your time.

I don't understand the key lifetime though if I choose to use the pre-shared password... what does that mean?

Instead of generic advice, how about specific...

WGR614 Support Page

"Key Lifetime"

"This setting determines how often the encyption key is changed. Shorter periods provide greater security, but adversely affect performance. If desired, you can change the default value. "

Don't change anything about the key lifetime (unless you want to use a new key every XXXXX hour)

Just click on WPA PSK and Type a KEY or PASSWORD you'd like to use (could be the name of a song, a sentence from a book) and that's about it. That should be enough.
If you want more security you could also use MAC address to only allow specific wireless devices to connect to your router based on their MAC addresses

and turn of your SSID broadcast....that will keep most of the casual users out.

Depending on what verison of WGR614 you have, WPA-PSK is tricky at best. Some won't let you authenticate to it and the best I've been able to do with mine is WEP.
