I'm trying to buy a car tomorrow morning, the fleet manager I spoke to told me everything I need to bring. I don't have a bill with my address on it though because all my sh*t's paperless & online. I did find an official ballot the city sent me last week. Would this + a print out of my policy info from my insurance site (has my address on it) work? I want to get to the dealer as soon as they open so I'm trying to see what I can figure out before the morning so I don't have to rush around at the last minute.

I suppose this could be a ymmv from company to company, but possibly someone here has some experience and can chime in.

You can probably just print one. The various numbers that are on it is what they need, they can look it up and validate it. Mortgage statement is probably a safe bet.

Have you checked financing from a credit union? Unless you're getting a promo rate (like 0-2%), you can probably do better with a CU.

You can still print the statement online, which comes with address, if you got paperless.

Thanks for the replies, I don't see anywhere on my Credit Union account online that's listing my address. My insurance companies web site isn't working, when I log in and click view my policy it's taking me back to the login page. sheieieieit lol I guess I gotta wait for the dealership to open and call and see what the hell else I can do here.

If you pay for phone or internet service you have a printable statement with your address for sure. Pretty much anything you pay online per month that would otherwise send you a statement will have this. Alternatively just call them up and have them fax it directly to the stealership for you. Even less hassle.

Why would you need a bill with your address on it? Isn't your address on your drivers license. I've never had to provide anything like that.

Is this dealer one of those shady "buy here, pay here" places that prey on folks with bad credit?

No, many many places require this. DMV does, banks do, some credit unions, dealerships, etc.

Some people move and don't bother to change the address on their drivers license. A recent bill is more likely to show your current address. What will they do when everything's online?

I've needed it at the DMV and at a bank. Technically they were the same need though. I got married and moved in with my wife (sold my house). I wanted to change the address on my checks - bank required bills with new address and driver's license with new address. DMV required two bills with new address. The problem was that all bills were in my wife's name (even worse they were in her maiden name). So I had nothing to prove that I lived there. Marriage license didn't work because it never said that I moved to her house.

What I did was look down the block and saw an auto parts store and a Jiffy Lube. Problem solved. Both locations print your stated address on their bills. I got an oil change and new winshield washer blades. I needed both anyways, but more importantly, I now had two bills with my new address. Address bills are a stupid check since anyone can lie on bills.

The stealership where I bought my truck asked for two bills for proof of residency and my most recent check stub. The salesman never looked at either of them.

Need it at the DMV here too.

I'm surprised printing out on online statement would be acceptable, though. It seems like it would be pretty easy to "photoshop" false information onto it.

I needed it to register my kid for kindergarten next year. Mortgage/rental agreement, current bill with address (or bank statement with address) and drivers license. They said no to a passport since it doesn't have an address. They needed to verify that all 3 sources have the same address.

Can't you print out your electric or gas bill? Bank statement will work in lieu of a utility bill.

That may have been the one place we needed it, but I don't recall. I know the school system here is pretty tight with address confirmation.

Yes, forgot about registering my child for school. They requested it for us for my son's kindergarten, but since we had already sent two kids through that school, they said we didn't need it, but new parents did. So some DMVs, some banks, some schools, my credit union did when I opened an account, and some dealerships. It appears to be hit or miss depending on where you live.

If you can't show a bill with your current address maybe you're a crook committing fraud or a fugitive using a phony name.
