Question about my web server, PLease help!

I'm starting a web site and before I start advertising, I want to know how my server can handle the traffic. Is there a service that will "Strain" my server to see how well it performs?? I would like to find a free service!

Please let me know if you have any ideas!

thanks
mike

you could always go on efnet in #linux and chant &quot;Linux sux, Windows 2000 ownz you.. look at my webpage <url here>&quot;

and see how long it takes before they flood it offline 😉

but I am sure there are better ways.

If so they you should be able to handle maybe 1000 hits a hour or so without to much slowdown(that is IF you dont have any files to D/L) if you have files for D/L then it will depend on what ppl are downloading.

Any particular reason why you want Adv Server instead of the &quot;regular&quot; Server?
Otherwise stick with server.

As for stress testing, Microsoft actually has a util for this, called Stress test for WinNT/2K or something like that.
Havent tried it, but I imagine it can be used to test stuff like that.

If you have access to MSDN its included there.

Also, there have been tons of issues with FP Ext, check out Technet to make sure you dont run into any issues with it.

And one more thing, it might not be a bad idea to make sure you're allowed to run a webserver on your DSL, since alot of companies dont allow this.

Bellsouth doesn't really give a rats *** what you do on the connection, lol.. If they do I'll just switch to telocity and they actually advertise that you can host your own server, lol. There isn't going to be any files to download at the moment. I think 1000 hits an hour is fine, lol, if I get that many I'll be able to afford a T-1, lol.

Thanks for you help guys

mike
