Question about my possibly dead MoBo

Hello folks, new to this forum that I stumbled on the other day.

I have a question about my MoBo. I purchased some new RAM to toss in my system so I shut it down, unplugged it all and ripped open the case. I took the old memory out and put the new stuff in there. I then plugged the compy back in and hit the on button. The comp powered up just enough for me to get a "beep" and then it would power down.

It did this about 4 times and left me scratching my head. I am not a super computer tech, but I am not horrible either. I checked all the connections, tried it again, same. Put the old ram back in and then it would not start at all. Now it will power the system up, spin the fans up etc but the comp will not boot and it just sits there running. I tried a new power supply from another computer and it was the same. I tried the PSU from this computer in the other computer and it worked fine.

It gave me an excuse to order up my new Athlon 64 and all the trimmings, but I would not mind another computer around the house if this one can be saved.

Thanks for all you help.

Clear the CMOS - there should be a jumper near the big watch battery. Or just take out the battery for a while with the system unplugged.

You may not have seated the RAM correctly, it takes some getting used to. Check if the AGP card is all the way in its slot as well.

3chordcharlie-

I took the battery out last night and replaced it..I dont know if that was it, I will try to reset it tonite. I hope that works.

airfoil-

I went thru everything last night. It is all seated and in place. Will the mobo work fine with two different speeds of ram? I know it will work at the slowest rate, but will it work?

thanks for the help
