My eye doc wrote down my eyeglass prescription and i'm a bit confused... Maybe some of you who have seen them before can help.

I currently wear progressive lenses, so I dunno if they just shortened the prescription, were lazy in writing it, or I just can't read it properly :)

My prescription;

-50 -50 x 090
-25 - 2.50 x 076 + 175

I "think" this means;

-5.0 - 5.0 x 090 (left)
-2.5 - 2.5 x 076 (right)

And for the progressive, +1.75

OD (Oculus Dexter) means right eye, OS (Oculus Sinister) means left eye. The Spherical correction is for near (-) or far (+) sightedness and PL here means Zero, The Cylinder and Axis is for astigmatism, Meaning that the eyeball is not exactly Spherical, but slightly oblong, or football shaped.

The Cylinder is the extent of the oblongeness while the axis is an angle, from 1 to 180 degrees and is the direction of the oblongeness. If the optometrist wrote Sph in the Cylinder space here it means Zero, that is the eyeball is spherical and has no oblongeness. and consequently no Axis.

The Add part is mostly for the over 40 group and is for bifocal reading/near correction.

Thanks!!!

But if I have progressive lenses (both are progressive), does the +1.75 have to be on both eyes?

-0.50 -0.50 x090 Right
-0.25 -2.50 x076 Left

ADD+1.75

and yes it applies for both eyes

if you just want a pair of reading glasses it would be:
+1.25 -0.50 x090 Right
+1.50 -2.50 x076 Left
